The Initiative

Personal Profile

Over the summer of 2020, right after the initial spread of COVID-19, I (Siddhant Vashisht) spent the months designing and 3D printing face shield holders and face mask holders in order to combat the spread of the virus. The products were made initially using TinkerCAD and were then converted to Fusion 360. The designs were printed on a personal 3D printer, an XYZ Da Vinci Mini W+, and replicated. There were approximately 20-25 face shields and mask holders in total. The designing and printing was done entirely by me.

Outreach

After 3D printing multiple face shield and mask holders, I reached out to Dr. Madhvi Patil from JFK Hospital. She worked with me to accept the 3D printed PPE as JFK Hospital was experiencing a shortage of protective equipment at the time.

All of the 3D printed equipment was donated to the professionals at JFK Hospital.

Further Steps

After designing PPE to combat COVID-19, I took further steps in order to try and continue the fight against the virus by starting a GoFundMe and raising over $1000 for Project C.U.R.E, a nonprofit organization which focused on providing PPE to professionals in need.
